The City received its name in the mid-1800s when it was considered a ‘garden spot’ in the newly developed Minnesota territory. Established in 1858, Eden Prairie remained a sleepy pastoral village until the mid-1900s when the additions of Flying Cloud Airport and Highway 494 put the City on the map, bringing thousands of homes and businesses to the area. Since then, the population of Eden Prairie has grown to more than 62,000 and the number of businesses has multiplied to more than 2,800. Eden Prairie provides an ideal environment for living well. In addition to attractive residential neighborhoods and affordable housing options, the City boasts nearly 10,000 acres of land designated for parks and open spaces, miles of scenic views and a multitude of breathtaking lakes and beaches. Eden Prairie is situated on the Minnesota River, which forms its entire southern boundary. The City is 36 square miles. The face of the country is mainly rolling and hilly. This is the character of the northern and middle portions. The name, however, arose from the southern portion, which consists of a prairie. The town was named in 1853 by a Mrs. Elizabeth F. Ellet who gave it the name Eden, in expressing her admiration of this beautiful prairie. It has many lakes and some marshes. The lakes are characterized by the usual gravelly shores and high banks that render the lakes of the county so beautiful. Source

Eden Prairie is a mid-sized city located in the state of Minnesota. The city has a population of 63,206 people. If we take a look at the last Census, the vast majority of the population falls within one racial group (80% White). Given that fact, Eden Prairie could be considered less diverse than other cities. 85% of the people in Eden Prairie (over the age of 15) are married and 55% have kids under the age of eighteen.
